"Sustainable Forests-Sources of Life" - Jake Doucette

Jake Doucette, one of the winners in Tolko Industries Ltd. National Forest Colouring Week Contest, donates his $100.00 prize to The Neutropenia Support Association Inc.

Employee's children from all Divisions of Tolko Industries Ltd. were once again invited to help celebrate National Forest Week, May 4 - May 10, 2003, by participating in their T-Shirt Contest.

Children were encouraged to submit their colourful drawing portraying this year's theme "Sustainable Forests - Source of Life." Creativity, vibrant colours, and reflection of knowledge served as criteria as judges reviewed the pictures celebrating the enjoyment of forests today, while protecting forest health for the future.

The grand prize winner's design was to be printed onto Tolko T-shirts to share with their family and friends, and professionally framed for displaying. A $200.00 donation was also to be made to the grand prize winner's chosen charity.

Winners were selected from each age category (3-5, 6-9 and 10-14) in each Province (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba). These winners were to be awarded $100.00 to donate to a charity of their choice, as well as receiving their drawing professionally framed. All entries receive a small gift for participating.

Tolko has been holding this popular contest since 2000.

National Forest Week may just be an obscure note on a calendar to most Canadians, but in The Pas and area, celebrating our forests is done for a myriad of reasons.

Surrounded by the tall stands of coniferous vegetation, the forests have been described as the life blood of the region, with Tolko as the medical staff.

Five year old Jake Doucette was one winner and donated his $100 to The Neutropenia Support Association.

Dallas Kerwin was the eight year old winner and she donated her money to the Kelsey Early Years School Breakfast and Lunch Program.

Anna Doucette was the 10 year old winner and her money was donated to The Pas Regional Library.
