important message from Lorna Stevens

International  Neutropenia researcher, Dr. Christopher Klein was awarded the top recognition at ASH this past December is a really BIG deal and highlights how far NEUTROPENIA has come since we started in 1989.

His discoveries scientifically have contributed to helping the lives of so many with congenital neutropenia.  The William Dameshek Prize was awarded to Dr. Christoph Klein because of his pioneering research into the pathophysiology, the landmark discovery of mutations in HAX1 genes in patients with severe chronic neutropenia ( Kostmann disease) and the discovery of human P14/ROBLD3 deficiency and G6PC3 deficiency, genetic defects that can cause Kostmann syndromes. His contributions identified the genetic basis of several diseases on  the immune system and has had a large impact on the understanding of human blood and the immune system.

2011 Annual Golf Tournament a Huge Succuess!

Our Annual Golf Tournament held at the Kingswood Golf Club, May 19, 2011, was again a huge success with 156 golfers. The day started out looking very Bad as it was cloudy and raining right up until the guy were ready to tee off, but, as luck would have it, it stopped raining and the sun came out, turned out to be a very beautiful day for all the golfers.

After all the golfers were done, we had a very hardy and delicious chicken and ribs dinner, with a great desert, Gary and his staff at the Kingswood were very generous with the each helping, as usual, way too much food! After dinner, the special prizes were handed out and the auction for the Big Items, The ever popular Cement Mixer was again included and was a great Auction Item. An Autographed Hockey Jersey also was a hot Item, bidding for this went extreme with the final bid coming in over $900.00.

After all the formal events were done, Jim and his gang sat down for their usual fun filled guitar playing Karaoke. All in all, It was a great day/evening for everyone. Final amount was $9386.67  The Neutropenia Support Association would like to give a huge "hug" and "hardy" Thank-you to every one involved in this Fantastic Charity event.

Hope to see you all next Year..

Many Thanks..
